Nashville, Tenn. – Much of Middle Tennessee is set to endure another day of dangerous heat, with heat index values peaking around 103 to 104 degrees in several cities Friday afternoon. The National Weather Service warns that conditions west of the Cumberland Plateau will remain oppressive until early evening.
According to the agency, Clarksville, Nashville, and Lebanon will feel like 100 degrees or more for most of the day, with peak readings from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Lawrenceburg will see slightly lower but still hazardous heat index values, topping near 98 degrees by mid-afternoon. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, take frequent breaks, and drink plenty of water.
High heat index levels increase the risk of heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those working or exercising outdoors. Shaded areas, air-conditioned spaces, and lightweight clothing can help reduce the risk.
Friday’s heat is expected to ease slightly into the evening, but temperatures will remain in the 90s until sunset. More heat advisories could be issued if similar conditions persist through the weekend.
