Nashville, TN – An armed domestic violence fugitive was shot by police early Tuesday after allegedly firing on officers. The incident happened near Napier housing on Lewis Street.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), Knykholas Lane, 21, attempted to enter his estranged girlfriend’s apartment at 12:50 a.m. Officers responded to the scene, where Lane reportedly fled on foot. Officer Eric Ziegler, a three-year MNPD veteran, ordered Lane to stop. Lane allegedly fired a semi-automatic pistol. Ziegler returned fire, striking Lane in the leg and buttocks.
Lane was treated at Vanderbilt for his injuries. No officers were harmed during the exchange. Arrest warrants show Lane faced charges for false imprisonment and domestic assault after a prior incident Thursday. Lane’s girlfriend claimed he punched her twice and confined her in a bedroom before fleeing.
Lane was also convicted of aggravated burglary in March 2023 and sentenced to supervised probation. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting, and Officer Ziegler is on administrative assignment per protocol. Body-camera footage of the encounter is available.
