Nashville, TN – A 42-year-old passenger was killed in a crash on I-24 West in Nashville early Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as Pritam “Peter” Singh, was a passenger in a Nissan Altima that collided with a Volvo tractor-trailer.

According to authorities, the crash occurred near the Whites Creek area, close to Old Hickory Boulevard. Preliminary investigations suggest the tractor-trailer, which had been traveling westbound in the right lane, merged left as it approached a broken-down vehicle pulled over on the shoulder. As the semi moved back into the right lane, the Altima passed it at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Altima struck the trailer tires, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and roll into the tree line.

The 30-year-old driver of the Altima and a 19-year-old rear-seat passenger were transported to Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. However, Singh was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to notify his family.

There were no signs of impairment from either driver involved in the incident.
