The Midwest offers some of the best fall foliage destinations in the U.S., with vibrant colors peaking from late September through October. In Michigan, the Upper Peninsula transforms into a sea of reds, oranges, and yellows, especially along the Porcupine Mountains and the scenic M-22 Highway. Late September to early October is the prime time to visit.

In Wisconsin, Door County stands out, offering picturesque water views framed by bright fall colors. Visitors can hike or drive through Peninsula State Park to enjoy the peak foliage, which typically arrives in early-to-mid October.

For Ohio leaf-peepers, Hocking Hills provides a rugged landscape of cliffs and waterfalls, with stunning views along the Hocking Hills Scenic Byway in early October.

In Southern Illinois, Shawnee National Forest shines in mid-October, with the Garden of the Gods offering breathtaking overlooks of the forest’s fall transformation.

Finally, Brown County State Park in Indiana, known as the “Little Smokies,” peaks in mid-October, with rolling hills and scenic drives perfect for a fall getaway.
