Pittsburgh, PA – Residents across parts of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Ohio, Maryland, and Virginia should brace for potential flash flooding Sunday, as heavy rain threatens to overwhelm already saturated ground.

According to the National Weather Service, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 a.m. through Sunday evening for areas including Pittsburgh, Morgantown, Clarksburg, Steubenville, and Cumberland. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated totals near 5 inches. The threat is amplified by recent rainfall, which has left the soil primed for rapid runoff.

Urban areas with poor drainage — including Wheeling, Fairmont, and Washington, PA — could experience flooded roads and rising streams. Low-lying roads, underpasses, and basements are especially vulnerable. In eastern West Virginia, the Blue Ridge region and upper Potomac headwaters may see fast stream rises as the system moves eastward.

Travelers are urged to avoid flooded roadways and monitor local alerts. Charge phones, prepare emergency kits, and move valuables out of basements as a precaution.

Flood Watches remain active through 10 p.m. Sunday. Additional alerts or Flash Flood Warnings may be issued as storms intensify. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and local updates.
