Blowing Rock, NC – A fatal collision on US-321 in Caldwell County claimed the life of a Boone man Friday evening.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 7:35 p.m. near Rocky Knob Road. A 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle, driven by 64-year-old Robert Thomas Kampfer, crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2014 Mercedes-Benz SUV. Kampfer was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. The driver of the SUV, Philip Stephen Amick of Detroit, and his passenger were unharmed.
US-321 was partially closed during the investigation, which attributed the crash to careless and reckless driving. No charges will be filed.
