Great Falls, Mont. – Snow will return to central Montana Sunday night, with hazardous driving conditions expected in the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains through midday Monday.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Sunday to noon MDT Monday. The advisory includes Neihart, Monarch, and Kings Hill Pass, where 2 to 5 inches of wet snow is expected, accompanied by wind gusts up to 35 mph.
Travelers along U.S. Highway 89 and mountain routes near Kings Hill Pass should be prepared for slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses where ice is more likely to form overnight. Reduced visibility and accumulating snow could make driving treacherous late Sunday into Monday morning.
Those with plans in the central mountain corridor should consider delaying travel or using extra caution. Motorists are urged to keep emergency kits in their vehicles, including blankets, water, and fully charged phones. Snowfall in early May is unusual but not unprecedented for these elevations.
The advisory remains in effect until noon Monday, and additional alerts could be issued if snow totals or wind speeds increase. Stay tuned to local updates for changing road and weather conditions.
