A winter storm watch is in effect from Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon for the Absaroka/Beartooth Mountains and Crazy Mountains, with heavy snow and strong winds expected.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, total snowfall could range between 8 and 16 inches, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph. The combination of snow and strong winds may lead to widespread blowing snow and severely reduced visibility, making travel difficult or even impossible in some areas.

Recreation in high-elevation areas could also be impacted by dangerous conditions. Forecasters warn that additional rounds of heavy snowfall could continue into the workweek.

Residents and travelers should monitor weather updates and prepare for hazardous conditions. For road conditions and travel advisories, check with the Montana Department of Transportation.
