A dense fog advisory is in effect for portions of central and southeast Iowa until 6 a.m. Friday, significantly reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Des Moines, visibility has dropped to one-quarter mile or less in areas including Waterloo, Ottumwa, Marshalltown, and Newton. Affected counties include Black Hawk, Jasper, Marshall, and Wapello, among others.
Motorists are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and maintain a safe following distance. The advisory warns of rapidly changing visibility, which could make early morning travel especially dangerous.
The fog is expected to lift after sunrise as temperatures rise. Travelers can check with the Iowa Department of Transportation for real-time road conditions and updates.
