Montana Winter Storm Warning: Up to 2 Feet of Snow, Whiteout Conditions Until Wednesday

Missoula, MT – A powerful winter storm is set to bring heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions across northwest Montana, with accumulations of up to two feet in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 8 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Wednesday for Flathead Valley, Mission Valley, and Polson.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, snowfall totals will range from 4 to 8 inches in Flathead Valley, 12 to 18 inches in the southern half of Flathead Lake and Mission Valley, and up to 2 feet in Arlee. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected Tuesday night, reducing visibility to near zero in some areas.

Whiteout conditions will make travel extremely hazardous on US-93, Highway 35, and Highway 28. Commuters should prepare for significant delays, particularly on Tuesday morning and evening.

Temperatures will drop sharply, with wind chills as low as -15°F expected. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible and carry emergency supplies, including blankets, food, and water.
