Great Falls, MT – A winter storm warning has been issued for the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains, with heavy snow expected from late Thursday through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin around 11 p.m. Thursday and continue through 11 p.m. Friday. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 12 inches are forecast, with winds gusting up to 35 mph. The heaviest snowfall rates, reaching up to an inch per hour, are expected early Friday morning.

The warning includes areas such as Kings Hill Pass, Neihart, and Monarch, where travel conditions could become hazardous due to blowing snow and reduced visibility. Drivers are advised to carry emergency supplies and check the latest road conditions through Montana’s 511 service or MDT’s website.

Authorities warn that the storm may cause travel disruptions and urge caution for anyone navigating mountain passes. For those in affected areas, staying off the roads unless necessary is strongly recommended.

Residents are encouraged to prepare for potential power outages and monitor weather updates as conditions develop.
