Great Falls, MT – A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect across north-central and southwestern Montana, with heavy snow and gusty winds creating hazardous travel conditions. The warning is active until 5 p.m. MST today.
According to the National Weather Service, areas along US Highway 87 and Montana Highway 200 are experiencing reduced visibility due to blowing snow, with accumulations of 1 to 4 inches expected in parts of Glacier, Chouteau, Cascade, and Fergus counties. Gusts of up to 35 mph are adding to the challenging conditions.
In Gallatin Valley and surrounding mountains, snow totals are forecast to reach 3 to 6 inches in lower elevations and up to 10 inches in the higher terrain, including Big Sky and West Yellowstone. Travelers should expect slippery roads, especially through mountain passes such as Raynolds Pass and Targhee Pass.
Additionally, areas like the Little Belt and Highwood Mountains are under similar warnings, with snowfall between 3 and 6 inches anticipated. Tire chains may be required in some mountain pass areas, including Kings Hill and Bozeman Pass.
