Missoula, MT – A powerful winter storm is set to bring hazardous conditions across northwestern Montana on Saturday, with significant snow and ice accumulations expected on major roadways. Travel disruptions and power outages are likely, prompting urgent safety measures.

According to the National Weather Service, a Winter Weather Advisory will take effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by a Winter Storm Warning from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Snowfall is expected to reach up to 4 inches, with ice accumulations nearing two-tenths of an inch. Affected highways include Highway 2 from Kalispell to Libby, Highway 93 from Eureka to Whitefish, Highway 56 (Bull Lake Road), and Highway 37 between Eureka and Libby.

Travelers should expect slick roads, especially on bridges and overpasses. Ice accumulation on tree limbs and power lines could result in widespread outages. Residents are advised to stock up on essentials and keep emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, in their vehicles.

Temperatures will hover near freezing Saturday, with freezing rain turning to snow by late morning. Winds may exacerbate visibility issues in higher elevations, further complicating travel.

Looking ahead, Sunday is expected to bring calmer weather, but lingering ice on roads could persist into early next week. Motorists are urged to check conditions via Montana’s 511 hotline before heading out.

Stay alert for updates as weather conditions evolve. Slow down, use caution, and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
