Spokane, WA – A winter storm is expected to bring freezing rain, sleet, and snow across central and northeastern Washington through Saturday evening, creating dangerous travel conditions. Key areas, including Stevens Pass, Spokane, and the Methow Valley, are under a Winter Weather Advisory.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. Residents in affected areas can expect mixed precipitation, with freezing rain in valleys and snow accumulating up to three inches in the mountains. Ice accumulation could reach 0.2 inches, especially in higher elevations and shaded roadways.

Travelers are urged to drive cautiously and prepare for slippery conditions on major routes, including I-90 near Stevens Pass and US Highway 2. Morning freezing rain may worsen as temperatures hover around freezing before gradually warming later in the day. Snowfall is expected to continue in the mountains into Saturday night, bringing additional light accumulations.

Local authorities recommend keeping emergency kits in vehicles and delaying non-essential travel during the advisory. Those venturing into mountain regions should be prepared for delays and carry chains as required.

Looking ahead, temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Sunday, reducing ice hazards in lower elevations. However, mountain regions could see continued snow flurries through the weekend. Travelers can stay updated on road conditions by visiting the Washington State Department of Transportation website.

Stay alert and plan accordingly to ensure safe travel during this weekend’s wintry weather.
