Butte, MT – A developing low-pressure system is expected to bring significant snowfall to southwest Montana late Saturday night, potentially dumping up to 10 inches in parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued from 12 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, with areas like Georgetown Lake, Butte, Anaconda, and Homestake Pass facing the highest chances of heavy accumulation. Forecast models show a 35% chance that these zones could see more than 4 inches of snow, and a 10% chance of exceeding 10 inches, particularly from Georgetown Lake to Homestake Pass.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 90, especially between Warm Springs and Homestake Pass, should prepare for slick and hazardous roads. Additional impacts could include reduced visibility due to blowing snow and isolated power outages from snow-laden tree limbs.

Northern Granite and Powell counties are expected to see lighter snowfall, though MacDonald Pass has a 25% chance of accumulating more than 4 inches. Northerly winds of 10 to 20 mph may exacerbate conditions overnight Saturday.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and monitor local updates. Snow and ice accumulation may cause delays, closures, and disruptions to weekend plans across the region.
