Montana braces for whiteout conditions as snow and 55 mph wind gusts slam northeast communities, and travel could turn dangerous within hours. Light snow already drifts across open fields near Glasgow, and visibility will drop fast as winds strengthen this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, a Blizzard Warning takes effect at 2 p.m. and runs through 5 p.m. Wednesday. Total snowfall may reach 3 inches, but the bigger threat comes from sustained winds gusting as high as 55 mph. Visibility could fall below a quarter mile in falling and blowing snow across Sheridan, Daniels, Roosevelt, Valley, McCone, and northern Phillips counties.

In Glasgow, highs hover near 44 degrees early before colder air pushes in. Roads including U.S. Highway 2 and Montana Highway 24 may become snow-packed and slick by late afternoon. Plan now. Travel should be restricted to emergencies once conditions deteriorate. If you must drive, carry a winter survival kit and stay with your vehicle if stranded.

Blowing snow continues into Wednesday with highs plunging near 18 degrees. Wind chills drop below zero at times. By Wednesday night, temperatures fall near 1 degree, increasing the risk of flash freezing on untreated roads.

Snow chances linger Thursday with a high near 10, then gradual improvement arrives Friday under mostly sunny skies and a high near 15. The weekend turns brighter, with highs near 18 Saturday and upper teens to near 20 Sunday.

Looking ahead, NOAA’s 6–10 day outlook signals a moderation trend into early next week, with temperatures trending closer to or slightly above normal across Montana.

Thursday: Chance of snow, high 10.
