Glasgow, MT – A significant winter storm is expected to impact north-central Montana today and Friday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of hazardous travel conditions across the region. Snowfall totals are forecast to reach 5 to 9 inches for many areas, with even higher amounts likely in the mountains.

According to the National Weather Service Glasgow office, snow will continue spreading across the region from Thanksgiving afternoon into Friday morning. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings are in effect for multiple counties, including Phillips, Valley, Blaine, Daniels, and Roosevelt. Forecasters say the combination of steady snowfall and increasing winds will lead to blowing snow and slick roadways, with visibility dropping to as low as one-half mile in heavier bursts.

Travelers should be prepared for deteriorating conditions into Friday, particularly along Highway 2, MT-200, and rural roadways where drifting snow may occur. Road surfaces may become snow-covered and icy, especially during the late afternoon and evening hours when traffic increases.

Forecasters note that mountainous terrain will likely receive the heaviest snowfall and strongest wind effects. Snow is expected to taper gradually by Saturday morning, but lingering slick spots and drifting will remain possible.

Residents planning travel for the holiday weekend are urged to monitor updates and allow extra travel time, as road conditions may change quickly through Friday.
