Billings, MT – A cold front moving into Montana is expected to bring rain and snow through Friday, with the heaviest accumulations in the mountains, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Billings.
According to NWS, temperatures in the 60s on Thursday will drop as the front arrives in the evening, turning rain into wet snow overnight and into Friday. While lower elevations will see little to no accumulation, areas south of I-90 and higher hills from Lame Deer to Sheridan may see more measurable snow.
The highest snowfall totals are expected in mountainous regions, with Old Faithful and western parts of the state seeing 8–12 inches. Livingston, Columbus, and Sheridan could receive around 1 inch, while Red Lodge may see up to 3 inches.
Residents are advised to prepare for changing road conditions, especially in higher elevations. While this is not a particularly cold system, travel along I-90 and surrounding areas could be impacted. More updates will be available as conditions develop.
