Billings, Montana – Outdoor plans across central and eastern Montana could be disrupted Wednesday as isolated severe thunderstorms threaten to bring wind gusts up to 65 mph from 2 to 11 p.m. Residents and visitors are urged to stay weather-aware, with brief but powerful storms possible into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Billings, the main threat comes from fast-moving storms capable of producing damaging winds between 45 and 65 mph, along with pockets of dry lightning. The highest risk zone stretches from Great Falls and Lewistown south to Billings and Miles City, where even brief storms could cause downed branches and hazardous driving conditions.

Communities along I-90, including Laurel, Red Lodge, and Columbus, should prepare for sudden changes in weather. Those with outdoor events or camping plans are advised to identify nearby shelters and have multiple ways to receive warnings. Power outages are possible in areas hit by stronger gusts. Officials recommend securing loose objects, charging devices, and delaying travel if severe weather develops.

While storms are expected to remain isolated, a few may become severe before weakening late tonight. More updates and possible advisories could follow if conditions intensify.
