Billings, Mont. – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will sweep across Montana this afternoon through early Friday, potentially disrupting evening plans and early commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Billings, precipitation will begin in the western part of the state by late Thursday and track eastward overnight. While no strong thunderstorms are expected, brief downpours and embedded lightning could affect areas from Livingston to Miles City. Highs today will reach the 60s and low 70s before rain arrives.
The heaviest rainfall is expected northwest of Billings and into far eastern Montana, where totals could range from 0.25 to 0.50 inches. The chance of measurable rainfall is highest—between 20% and 40%—in these areas.
Residents planning outdoor activities this evening should monitor local conditions and consider moving plans indoors. Wet roads and brief low visibility could also affect drivers during the evening and early morning hours.
The system is expected to clear by Friday morning, but additional updates may be issued if storm activity strengthens or shifts. Stay tuned to NWS Billings or local outlets for the latest.
