Billings, MT – The National Weather Service has issued multiple High Wind Warnings spanning nearly all of central and eastern Montana, with gusts up to 80 mph possible tonight through Tuesday evening. The strongest winds are forecast for the Beartooth and Crazy Mountains, Livingston area, Judith Gap, and along the Rocky Mountain Front.

According to NWS offices in Billings, Great Falls, and Glasgow, west to southwest winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts between 60 and 80 mph are expected across the region. These extreme winds will peak late Monday night into Tuesday morning, especially in mountain passes and exposed plains.

Forecasters warn that travel will be very difficult for high-profile vehicles, particularly along Interstate 90 near Livingston, Highway 191 through Judith Gap, and Highway 2 across northeastern Montana. The NWS also cautions of blowing debris, power outages, and reduced visibility in areas of blowing snow.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain in lower levels of their homes during peak wind periods. Winds are expected to gradually weaken late Tuesday into Tuesday night.
