Dillon, Mont. – High winds are set to sweep across southwest Montana Monday, threatening property damage, power outages, and hazardous travel conditions for several mountain passes and valleys.
According to the National Weather Service in Great Falls, a High Wind Watch is in effect from Monday morning through the afternoon. Southwest winds could reach sustained speeds of 20 to 40 mph with gusts topping 60 mph across the Madison and Beaverhead River Valleys, Ruby Mountains, and the Gallatin and Madison County Mountains, including the Centennial Mountains.
Travelers using Monida Pass, Raynolds Pass, and Targhee Pass should prepare for dangerous crosswinds, especially high-profile vehicles. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and monitor updates closely.
The high wind threat is expected to subside by Monday evening, but further advisories may follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for updated alerts and consider delaying travel during peak wind hours.
