Davenport, Iowa – A warming trend is expected to continue across the Quad Cities region through the end of the workweek, though brief chances for light winter precipitation may create localized travel concerns.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, temperatures will climb to well above normal levels by Friday, with highs rising from the 20s and lower 30s today into the mid-30s to mid-40s Thursday and Friday. The warmer pattern will be driven by milder air moving into the Upper Mississippi River Valley.
While most of the period will remain dry, forecasters say a fast-moving clipper system may pass north of the region Thursday morning, bringing a chance for flurries or light snow to northwest Illinois. A second clipper could arrive by Friday morning, introducing a chance for a brief wintry mix in the same areas. Any precipitation is expected to be light, with little accumulation.
Major travel corridors that could be affected include Interstate 80, Interstate 74, Interstate 280, and U.S. Highway 30, particularly during early morning hours when temperatures remain near freezing. Even light snow or mixed precipitation could create slick spots on bridges and untreated roads.
Despite the precipitation chances, the overall trend favors improving conditions as temperatures rise. By Friday afternoon, highs are forecast to reach the upper 30s to upper 40s, helping limit lingering travel impacts. Saturday temperatures are expected to cool slightly but remain near or above seasonal averages.
The National Weather Service notes that forecast confidence is higher in the warming trend than in the exact timing or coverage of the light precipitation. Residents are encouraged to monitor updates, especially if traveling early Thursday or Friday.
Commuters, students, and early-shift workers traveling along I-80 and I-74 should allow extra time during morning hours in case brief slick conditions develop.
This outlook is based on forecast guidance issued Wednesday afternoon and will be updated as newer data become available.
