St. Louis, MO — A mild and dry start to the week will give way to unsettled weather Tuesday night, with a 60–70% chance of rain and thunderstorms expected across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois. Residents along I-44 in Missouri and I-55 in Illinois should prepare for wet roads and lower visibility during evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in St. Louis, storms could begin developing late Tuesday and continue into early Wednesday morning. While severe weather is not expected, isolated thunderstorms may produce localized heavy rainfall and gusty winds. Temperatures will also drop overnight, falling into the low 30s to 40s.
Before the storms arrive, Monday and Tuesday will remain mostly mild. Monday’s forecast includes clearing skies with highs reaching the 60s in most areas, though cooler conditions persist in northeast Missouri and central Illinois. Tuesday will start dry but turn increasingly cloudy as temperatures reach the low 50s.
By Tuesday evening, rain chances increase as a low-pressure system pushes through the region, bringing widespread precipitation south of I-44 and east of I-55. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time Tuesday night and exercise caution on slick roadways.
Looking ahead, Tuesday offers relief as skies begin to clear and temperatures settle into the mid-40s. However, a colder trend will follow, with nighttime lows dipping into the upper 20s and daytime highs in the 30s later in the week.
