Springfield, MO — A freeze warning remains in effect for Springfield and surrounding counties until 9 a.m. Tuesday as spring temperatures plunge below freezing overnight.
The National Weather Service has issued an urgent Freeze Warning for much of southwest Missouri, including Springfield, cautioning residents about frost formation and potential damage to sensitive spring vegetation. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will dip to 30°F by early Tuesday with widespread frost forming after 4 a.m.
Drivers along US-65 and I-44 should prepare for early morning frost that may impact visibility. Residents are urged to cover plants and avoid overnight irrigation. Wind chill values may also dip as low as 30°F during early hours Tuesday, especially in rural zones around Greene County.
The good news arrives Wednesday as Springfield begins a warming trend. Tuesday’s high will reach near 61°F, with mostly sunny skies returning. Winds will shift south by evening, signaling a strong temperature rebound midweek.
Wednesday brings a high of 72°F with plenty of sunshine. The warming continues through Friday, with daytime highs near 70°F and nighttime lows in the 40s. Thursday remains sunny, offering dry roads and mild spring conditions for travel.
The extended five-day forecast shows no major precipitation or storm systems expected through Sunday. Friday and Saturday will bring highs near 62–72°F, with clear skies and calm conditions dominating the region. Sunday’s high approaches 73°F, followed by a partly cloudy evening and overnight low around 59°F.
