Missouri Weather This Weekend: Temperatures Near 100 After Midweek Storms

Springfield, MO – Southwest Missouri is expected to transition from scattered thunderstorms to a much hotter and drier weather pattern heading into the weekend, with temperatures approaching the upper 90s by Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, scattered showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, with rain chances between 40% and 70%. Afternoon highs are expected to range from 84 to 92 degrees Wednesday and 85 to 91 degrees Thursday.

Forecasters say conditions will begin drying out on Friday, when highs are forecast between 87 and 93 degrees with decreasing rain chances.

The warming trend is expected to continue through the weekend as high pressure builds across the region. Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly dry conditions with afternoon temperatures climbing to 89 to 95 degrees, while Sunday is expected to be the hottest day of the period, with highs ranging from 91 to 98 degrees.

The National Weather Service said the overall pattern will shift from seasonably warm conditions during the middle of the week to a hotter, drier stretch by the weekend.

Residents planning outdoor activities later this week should remain alert for thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday, as lightning and brief heavy rainfall may accompany stronger storms. By the weekend, the primary concern will shift to the increasing heat, with those spending extended time outdoors encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing, and take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
