Missouri wakes under a brittle, biting chill as light snow drifts across dark pavement.
The air stings the face. Tires hiss on damp roads. Conditions feel quiet now, but change is already underway.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Springfield, Missouri, lasting through 6 PM Sunday. Meteorologists expect a prolonged snow event with 6 to 14 inches possible across the Ozarks. The heaviest snow develops later today and continues into Sunday morning, when travel impacts peak.

Snowfall rates increase after sunrise, quickly covering untreated roads. Routes including US-60, US-65, I-44, and Highway 13 may turn slick within hours. Visibility drops during heavier bursts, especially in open and elevated areas. Plan extra time if travel is unavoidable.

At the same time, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through Monday midday. Wind chills plunge as low as 18 below zero, creating a serious frostbite risk. Even brief exposure becomes dangerous without proper layers.

Temperatures struggle to climb. Highs today hover near 9 degrees, with Sunday reaching only the mid-teens. Gusty north winds make it feel much colder. As daylight fades, any melting refreezes fast, raising the threat of flash freezing on bridges, driveways, and sidewalks.

Snow tapers Sunday afternoon, but the cold locks in. Monday stays dry but bitter, with highs near 16 degrees and lows near zero. Pipes, pets, and vulnerable neighbors remain at risk during the extended freeze.

Looking toward midweek, sunshine returns and temperatures slowly recover into the lower 30s. Precipitation chances drop, but snow on the ground melts slowly in persistent cold.

Conditions may deteriorate quickly later today. Limit travel when possible and prepare now. Are you already seeing heavier snow where you live?
