Texas greets the morning under damp streets and low clouds, with cold pressing south fast.
Light rain taps windshields. Visibility drops in patches of fog. The air feels heavy now, but a sharper edge arrives soon.

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect for San Antonio and much of south-central Texas from this evening through Monday midday. Wind chills are expected to plunge as low as 5 degrees below zero, especially across Hill Country communities late tonight into early Monday.

At the same time, a Winter Storm Warning is posted from this afternoon through Sunday noon. Rain changes to freezing rain and sleet, creating a glaze of ice on bridges and overpasses. Ice accumulations of one-tenth to one-quarter inch are likely, with isolated higher amounts possible.

Travel conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Elevated roadways along I-10, I-35, Loop 410, and US-281 could become slick within hours. Reduced visibility and icy patches increase crash risk, especially after sunset. Delay travel if possible and plan extra time if driving is unavoidable.

Temperatures fall steadily. Readings drop into the upper 20s tonight, then struggle to recover Sunday. Cold north winds push wind chills into the teens during the day and well below zero at night. Any moisture left on roads will flash freeze, extending hazards into Monday morning.

By Monday, skies clear but the cold lingers. Highs reach only the upper 30s. Overnight lows fall into the teens, raising concerns for exposed pipes, pets, and livestock. Take steps now to protect plumbing and bring animals indoors.

Looking toward midweek, temperatures rebound into the 40s and 50s with drier conditions. Precipitation chances drop, but recovery takes time after prolonged cold.

Conditions may change quickly today. Stay alert and prepare early. Are roads already icing where you are?
