Kansas City, MO – Strong thunderstorms are expected to develop across Missouri beginning Wednesday night and continuing into early Thursday morning, with hail as the primary threat, according to the National Weather Service.
The NWS Kansas City office issued a weather alert Tuesday afternoon noting that some of the storms could become severe, especially between late Wednesday evening and early Thursday. While the chance of widespread severe weather remains low, hail-producing storms are the main concern.
Temperatures will remain well above seasonal averages throughout the week, with highs in the low to mid-60s on Wednesday, rising into the 70s by Thursday and continuing into the weekend. The unseasonably warm temperatures are contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions.
Areas with elevated storm risks include Kansas City, St. Joseph, Columbia, and surrounding regions. Thursday through Saturday should remain warm, but additional chances for thunderstorms are forecast through Monday, potentially affecting weekend plans.
Residents are urged to monitor local weather alerts, secure loose outdoor items, and park vehicles under shelter where possible to protect against hail damage. Continue following updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management for the latest developments.
