Quad Cities, IA/IL – Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms could bring severe weather to eastern Iowa and western Illinois Thursday afternoon into the night.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the strongest storms are likely during the evening and overnight hours on Thursday, March 27. The threat zone includes cities such as the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, Macomb, and Peoria. A marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather has been issued, with the primary threats being lightning and isolated large hail.

Storm activity is expected to begin by late afternoon and continue through the overnight period. Rain chances range between 40% and 80%, with higher intensity expected after sunset. The storms are associated with a warm front moving through the region, increasing atmospheric instability.

Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts throughout Thursday for updated warnings. Officials recommend having a shelter plan in place in case storms intensify quickly after dark. Outdoor activities should be adjusted accordingly, and individuals are advised to stay indoors during periods of thunder and lightning.

This pattern of spring weather is typical for the region but still poses hazards, especially during nighttime hours when visibility and reaction times are reduced.
