Kansas City, MO – A powerful storm system is set to move through Missouri on Friday, bringing severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and heightened fire weather concerns, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City. The system is expected to intensify Friday afternoon and evening, prompting residents to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions.

According to the NWS, non-thunderstorm wind gusts exceeding 45 mph are highly likely across much of the region, with near 100% certainty in some areas. Some gusts could approach 55 mph, particularly in and around the Kansas City metro. These strong winds, combined with dry conditions, will create a critical fire weather risk, especially in the southwestern part of the state.

Severe thunderstorms may also develop Friday afternoon and evening, increasing the potential for damaging winds and hazardous conditions. The NWS advises residents to avoid outdoor burning and prepare for possible power outages due to high winds.

Looking ahead, fire weather concerns may continue into Monday and Tuesday, and another storm system could affect the region by midweek.
