Paducah, KY – Residents in western Kentucky should prepare for hazardous weather Friday, as strong winds and thunderstorms are expected to impact travel and daily activities. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday, warning of gusts up to 45 mph across portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and southeast Missouri.

According to the NWS, south winds of 15-25 mph will develop by the afternoon, with gusts nearing 50 mph at times. These conditions could make driving difficult, especially on I-24 and US-60, and may result in minor power outages due to downed tree limbs.

By Friday night, severe thunderstorms are likely, with heavy rain, frequent lightning, and damaging winds. Some storms may produce gusts over 70 mph and isolated tornadoes, particularly in western Kentucky and southern Indiana.

• Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms continue in the morning before clearing. High near 74°F.

• Sunday: Cooler and drier, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 55°F.

• Monday: Warmer and calm, with highs reaching 66°F.

Residents should secure loose outdoor items and stay weather-aware Friday evening, as conditions may deteriorate rapidly. Use caution when driving, and monitor updates for possible severe storm warnings.
