Kansas City, MO – A new storm system is poised to sweep through the central United States, bringing the risk of severe thunderstorms to western Missouri beginning Tuesday night and continuing into early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, the primary threat from these storms is large hail, potentially exceeding golf ball size. The most significant hail threat is expected in areas north of Interstate 35, including Kansas City, St. Joseph, and surrounding communities across northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas.

The system’s arrival is timed for late Tuesday evening, with storms intensifying overnight into early Wednesday. Meteorologists have placed much of the region under a Level 2 (Slight) risk for severe weather, emphasizing that hail could cause damage to vehicles, rooftops, and windows.

Residents are advised to move vehicles under shelter, secure loose outdoor items, and monitor weather alerts overnight. Those with early Wednesday commutes should remain cautious and prepared for debris or localized damage.

While March often brings fluctuating weather across Missouri, hail of this size is uncommon for this time of year. Stay updated through local alerts and the National Weather Service for real-time changes and warnings.
