Jefferson County, MO – Drivers in Jefferson County should expect significant delays this week as crews conduct emergency pavement repairs and bridge work along Interstate 55.

On Tuesday, one northbound lane of I-55 near Route Z was closed for urgent pavement repairs. The closure, which began early in the morning, is expected to remain in place until 10 p.m. Tuesday. Motorists traveling northbound are encouraged to seek alternate routes or allow for additional travel time due to anticipated backups.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), a second closure is scheduled for the southbound side of I-55 beginning Friday, June 6. Crews will close one southbound lane and the exit to Route A from 10 p.m. Friday until 1 a.m. Saturday, June 7, weather permitting. The overnight closure will allow crews to set girders for a new bridge over Central Avenue.

A signed detour will reroute southbound drivers to exit at either the I-55/McNutt interchange or the I-55/US 67 interchange and use US 61/67 to reach Route A.

Both closures are part of the ongoing I-55 Corridor Improvement Project in Jefferson County. For real-time traffic updates and more details about the project, drivers can visit modot.org or check the I-55 Corridor Upgrades page.

Motorists are urged to monitor conditions and plan accordingly as delays are likely throughout the area during peak travel times.
