Aurora, Missouri – An EF-1 tornado struck southern Aurora just after 9 a.m. Tuesday, damaging the roof of a church and uprooting trees along a short but intense 2.18-mile path through Lawrence County.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the tornado formed near Highway 60 between Verona and Aurora before dissipating just west of Highway 39 by 9:03 a.m. Peak winds reached 90 mph, with a maximum width of 100 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported, but several structures saw minor damage.
The storm’s path ran directly through southern sections of Aurora, impacting neighborhoods and rural properties near Lawrence 2220 and Farm Road 2010. Residents reported snapped trees and debris scattered across roadways. The church hit sustained roof damage, but no one was inside at the time of the storm.
Emergency crews are continuing cleanup along Highway 60 and nearby farm roads. Residents are advised to stay clear of damaged areas and watch for downed power lines. Power outages were not widespread but some homes lost service temporarily.
No additional tornado warnings are in effect, but the NWS says more storms are possible later this week. Updates will follow as conditions evolve.
