Jefferson City, Mo. – Severe thunderstorms capable of damaging winds, large hail, and localized flooding are expected to impact Missouri on Monday, with the greatest risk centered over Columbia, Springfield, and surrounding areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, storms will begin developing late Sunday over eastern Kansas and may push into Central Missouri by evening. Monday brings a higher threat, with a Level 3 (Enhanced) risk for severe weather stretching from Kansas City to southeast of Jefferson City. Storms may bring wind gusts nearing 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and isolated tornadoes.
Communities along and west of U.S. Highway 63, including Warrensburg, Sedalia, and Rolla, face the highest chance for storm-related hazards. Morning storms may linger from Sunday’s system, while a new round could develop by late afternoon and continue into the evening hours. Localized flash flooding is possible where heavy rainfall overlaps with poor drainage.
Drivers are urged to monitor road conditions and avoid flooded areas. Residents should secure outdoor items, charge electronic devices, and review tornado safety plans ahead of time.
Storm threats may persist into early Tuesday. Additional advisories could be issued as new data becomes available.
