Jefferson City, MO – Severe storms and tornadoes swept through Missouri, leaving at least 10 people dead and causing widespread destruction across 25 counties, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicate up to 19 tornadoes of varying strengths touched down, damaging homes, buildings, and power infrastructure. Governor Mike Kehoe declared a State of Emergency, activating the State Emergency Operations Plan to coordinate response and recovery efforts. The Missouri State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and local authorities are assessing damage and providing assistance.

“Our state team members and responders are working to support communities,” Kehoe said. “I appreciate the heroic work of all those assisting their fellow Missourians. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families grieving loved ones.”

Residents are urged to avoid impacted areas and assist neighbors, particularly the elderly, who may need help. Officials also encourage affected individuals to report damage to their local emergency management agencies.

Governor Kehoe plans to visit hard-hit communities, including Poplar Bluff, Piedmont, and Arnold, in the coming days. Additional updates will be provided as assessments continue.
