St. Louis, Missouri – A potent spring storm system threatens to soak St. Louis and surrounding Missouri counties beginning late Thursday, with an 80% chance of thunderstorms and showers rolling in by Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered storms may begin after 4 p.m. Thursday, with showers likely and possible thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Friday. A surge of moisture along I-70 could lead to slippery roads and poor visibility for early commuters. Flash flooding in low-lying areas is also possible. Travelers are urged to monitor conditions closely and avoid flooded roadways.

Widespread showers are expected throughout the day Friday, with storms potentially lingering into the evening. Friday’s high will hover near 79°F, followed by a chance of continued rainfall into Friday night.

Despite the soggy end to the workweek, the weekend brings a brief spring reprieve. Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 72°F and only a 20% chance of showers. Sunday, however, reintroduces a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching the mid-70s.

Here’s a look at the 5-day spring outlook for the St. Louis metro:

  • Wednesday: Sunny, high of 79°F
  • Thursday: Storms possible after 4 p.m., high of 82°F
  • Friday: Showers and thunderstorms likely, 80% chance, high of 79°F
  • Saturday: Partly sunny, slight rain chance, high of 72°F
  • Sunday: 30% storm chance, high of 75°F
