Minneapolis, Minnesota – Dry winds and dipping humidity levels will raise fire danger across Minnesota starting Wednesday, especially along the I-94 corridor and out toward southwestern counties. The National Weather Service warns that spring fire conditions will peak during the day and continue into the weekend for areas west of Minneapolis.
According to the National Weather Service in Chanhassen, breezy west winds paired with relative humidity levels below 25% will create hazardous fire weather starting Wednesday, April 23. Affected counties include Redwood, Kandiyohi, Renville, and Meeker, with conditions extending into Thursday and Friday. No rain is expected until at least Sunday.
Winds between 15–25 mph, combined with dry fuels, will make grass and brush fires more likely to spread quickly. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and use caution with grills or equipment near dry vegetation. Travelers along Highway 12 and I-94 should stay alert for reduced visibility due to smoke if any fires develop.
No major rain systems are forecast until late Sunday into Monday, when isolated showers and thunderstorms could return. Until then, sunny days and cool nights will dominate the weather pattern.
