Kansas City, MO – A quick-moving weather system will bring light snow to Missouri overnight Friday into Saturday morning, potentially creating hazardous driving conditions along I-70. Accumulations will range from a dusting to up to an inch for most, though areas east of Kansas City could see several inches.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the heaviest snowfall is expected along the I-70 corridor toward Columbia and Jefferson City, where up to two inches may accumulate by dawn. Wind chill values will drop to the teens and single digits overnight, with Saturday morning commuters urged to exercise caution on slick roads.
Saturday will remain cold, with highs near 38°F and winds shifting east at 5-7 mph. Skies will gradually clear by afternoon, providing some relief from the snow. Saturday night temperatures will plunge again to around 21°F under partly cloudy skies.
Looking ahead, the weekend remains frigid but mostly clear. Sunday will bring sunshine and highs near 35°F, but overnight lows will hover around 19°F. Expect similar conditions Monday, with sunny skies and a high of 34°F before temperatures warm slightly by midweek, reaching the 40s by Tuesday.
Drivers along I-70 and surrounding areas should plan for potential delays and allow extra travel time, especially early Saturday. Residents are advised to layer up for the extreme cold and keep an eye on updates for any weather-related disruptions.
