Springfield, MO – A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until 4:45 p.m. CDT for Newton, McDonald, and northwestern Barry counties as powerful storms move through southwest Missouri.

According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, a severe thunderstorm was located near Goodman at 4:08 p.m., moving northeast at 60 mph. Emergency management reported wind gusts reaching 67 mph in Goodman at 3:12 p.m., with quarter-sized hail also posing a significant threat.

The storm is expected to cause damage to vehicles, trees, mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings. Areas impacted include Monett, Granby, Neosho, Seneca, South West City, and Big Sugar Creek State Park. Additionally, Interstate 49 travelers between mile markers 1 and 30 should be prepared for hazardous conditions.

Residents in the affected regions are urged to seek shelter immediately in a sturdy structure and stay away from windows. The National Weather Service has classified this as a dangerous situation with widespread wind damage reported.
