Kansas City, Missouri – Storms packing large hail could sweep across northern Missouri late Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with the greatest risk along and north of Highway 36, including areas near St. Joseph and Chillicothe.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, there’s a 50–70% chance for showers and thunderstorms to develop Tuesday night, with some storms potentially reaching severe levels. The primary threat is large hail, though localized strong wind gusts are also possible.
Communities from Maryville to Macon should prepare for unsettled weather through the second half of the week, with multiple rounds of storms expected to continue into the weekend. While the most severe activity appears focused in northern counties, residents across central and western Missouri—including Kansas City—may experience periods of heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.
Travelers are urged to monitor local alerts and avoid driving during peak storm activity. Those in mobile homes or under temporary shelter should review severe weather plans.
Thunderstorm chances will persist through Friday, with additional watches or warnings possible depending on storm strength and development.
