Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Frost Advisory until 9 a.m. Friday across much of southern and central Missouri as well as southeast Kansas, with a Freeze Watch to follow from late Saturday night through Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), overnight temperatures dipped to near or below freezing, creating frost that could damage unprotected plants and outdoor plumbing. By the weekend, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30°F are possible across the Ozarks, including Springfield, Joplin, Rolla, Lebanon, and neighboring communities.
Residents are advised to cover tender plants, bring in potted vegetation, and insulate exposed pipes before the colder air arrives Saturday night. The NWS warns that these early-season freezes could end the growing season for many areas.
Counties under the advisory and watch include Bourbon, Crawford, Cherokee, Jasper, Newton, Greene, Christian, Lawrence, Polk, Camden, Phelps, Pulaski, and several others across southern Missouri and southeastern Kansas.
The upcoming cold snap marks one of the first widespread freezes of the season, signaling an early start to November chill across the Ozarks region.
