Kansas City, Mo. – Rain returns to Missouri late Tuesday night, with areas south of Highway 50 likely to see the heaviest showers through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, precipitation chances rise sharply after midnight, with Butler and Sedalia facing 85% and 65% odds respectively by early Wednesday. Rain will spread northward but taper in intensity closer to I-70, with Kansas City expecting a 65% chance by 6 a.m. Wednesday. Total rainfall could reach an inch or more in southern zones, with lesser amounts near Maryville and Bethany.
The highest impact will be felt along and south of a Sedalia-to-Butler line, where travel delays and slick roads are possible during the morning commute. Drivers should reduce speed on wet roadways and check conditions before heading out. Light rain may persist into Thursday afternoon before tapering off.
This midweek system will be the first widespread rain event since late April. While severe weather is not expected, ponding on roads and brief visibility reductions are possible. Residents should clear drains and keep umbrellas handy.
Showers will gradually diminish by Thursday evening, but NWS warns that additional rainfall could return this weekend.
