St. Charles County, Missouri – A Nike-operated manufacturing facility in St. Charles is set to lay off more than 170 workers as part of a permanent workforce reduction, according to a WARN notice filed with the state.
According to the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, NIKE IHM, Inc., doing business as AirMI, will reduce its workforce at the AM93 facility located at 8 Research Park Drive in St. Charles. The layoffs are expected to take effect June 26.
The filing states that a total of 172 employees will be impacted by the job cuts. Officials said the reduction is permanent, though no specific reason for the layoffs was provided in the notice.
Company representatives noted that affected workers are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights, meaning they cannot displace other employees based on seniority.
The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act requires employers to provide advance notice of significant layoffs or closures, allowing employees and local officials time to prepare for the economic impact.
St. Charles County, part of the greater St. Louis metro area, could see ripple effects from the layoffs, particularly in the local workforce and surrounding businesses.
It remains unclear whether additional workforce reductions or operational changes are planned at the facility.
