Kansas City, MO – Residents of northern Missouri and eastern Kansas are bracing for dangerously cold temperatures as an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect from midnight Wednesday through noon Thursday. Wind chills could reach as low as 30 below zero, increasing the risk of frostbite within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Kansas City, a Cold Weather Advisory is currently active until midnight Wednesday, with wind chills dipping to -25°F before conditions worsen overnight. The advisory and warning cover several counties, including Atchison and Doniphan in Kansas, as well as Andrew, Buchanan, Holt, Nodaway, and Atchison in Missouri.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers with hats and gloves, and avoid prolonged time outside. Travel should be approached with caution, as extreme cold can impact vehicle performance.

Temperatures are expected to gradually rise after noon Thursday, but cold conditions will persist into the weekend. Stay updated with local forecasts and take necessary precautions to prevent cold-related injuries.
