San Angelo, TX – A blast of arctic air is bringing dangerously cold temperatures to West Central Texas, with an Extreme Cold Warning in effect until noon Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in San Angelo, temperatures in the single digits and teens will combine with gusty north winds, creating wind chills as low as 10 below zero. The warning covers all of West Central Texas, including cities such as San Angelo, Abilene, Brownwood, and Junction.

Residents should take precautions to prevent hypothermia and frostbite, as prolonged exposure to these temperatures can be life-threatening. Water pipes may also be at risk of bursting due to extended freezing conditions.

Precautionary Measures:

• Wear multiple layers, including hats, face masks, and insulated gloves when outdoors.

• Allow indoor faucets to drip to prevent pipes from freezing.

• Protect pets and livestock by providing warm shelter.

• Check on elderly neighbors and those without heat.

Temperatures are expected to gradually warm after Thursday afternoon, but hazardous conditions will persist until then. Stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
