Missouri – The cold settles in hard along the Mississippi River as wind rattles bare branches and frost clings to sidewalks. Even brief exposure feels sharp as the St. Louis metro wakes under dangerous winter conditions.

An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect for eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois through midday. Wind chills are expected to dip as low as 20 to 25 degrees below zero, making frostbite possible in under 30 minutes on exposed skin.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, air temperatures hover near single digits early, with steady northwest winds adding bite. Lambert International Airport reported readings near 5 degrees, with wind chills close to -10 degrees before sunrise.

Road conditions remain mostly dry, but cold-driven hazards persist. Bridges, overpasses, and shaded roads cool faster and may develop slick patches. Any melting during the afternoon can refreeze quickly after sunset, raising the risk of flash freezing during evening travel. Drivers should slow down and allow extra time.

The cold loosens slightly Tuesday as sunshine increases. Highs climb toward the lower 30s, offering modest relief. Winds ease, though mornings remain sharply cold.

Midweek brings quieter weather. Wednesday stays mostly sunny with highs near the upper 20s. Another cold push arrives Thursday, keeping highs closer to 20 and nights well below freezing.

By Friday, temperatures recover slowly, reaching the upper teens to near 20. Dry conditions persist, but refreezing remains a concern after dark.

The broader 6–10 day outlook favors drier weather across the Midwest. Temperatures trend closer to seasonal norms late week, though winter cold remains a recurring threat.

Limit time outdoors, cover exposed skin, and protect pets and pipes. How cold did it feel in your neighborhood this morning?
