Springfield, MO – The National Weather Service has extended a Flood Warning for the James River near Boaz, impacting both Christian and Stone counties. Minor flooding is expected as the river level is forecast to crest at 12.5 feet by Saturday evening, up from its current level of 7.2 feet as of 5:45 p.m. Friday.
The flood stage for the James River is set at 10.0 feet, and the river will remain above this threshold until Sunday afternoon. Areas such as Hootentown Access and Campground are anticipated to be impacted by rising waters. The flood crest is expected to surpass the previous crest of 12.6 feet reached in May 2017.
Residents and travelers are urged to take precautions, especially when encountering flooded roads. The National Weather Service reminds everyone to avoid driving through floodwaters, as many flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. The warning is in effect from this evening until Monday afternoon.
