Missouri – A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 AM to 10 AM CST Monday for parts of northern Missouri, as dangerously cold wind chills are expected during the early morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service office in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, wind chills may fall to as low as 18 degrees below zero as arctic air settles across the region. The advisory applies to Putnam, Adair, and Schuyler counties in northern Missouri.

Communities within the advisory area include Kirksville, Lancaster, Queen City, Unionville, Downing, Glenwood, and Greentop. The coldest conditions are expected during the pre-dawn hours through the early morning commute on Monday.

The National Weather Service warns that exposure to these wind chills could result in hypothermia or frostbite if adequate precautions are not taken. Risk increases for individuals spending extended time outdoors, early-morning commuters, outdoor workers, and those without proper winter clothing.

Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, dress in warm layers, and wear hats and gloves when outside. Travelers should use caution, allow extra time, and ensure vehicles are prepared for cold-weather conditions.

Wind chills are expected to gradually improve after 10 AM Monday as temperatures rise and winds ease.
